7 Items to Pack for a Yacht Vacation

A sailing holiday is an ultimate way to wind-down, indulge in nature and set out on a path of new discovery and adventure! Although you won’t really need much to be comfortable onboard, we created this short list to help you make sure you are fully prepared. Read below before heading out on a yacht vacation!

Essential: Spare Swimsuits!

As most of your holiday will take place aboard your charter yacht, in the sea, on beaches and some on land excursions, your first and foremost uniform will be your bathing suit. Dipping in and out of the water all day, sunbathing, swimming, watersports and more – you will always have your swimsuit on. So make sure you have a few spares with you to avoid the discomfort of sitting around in a wet bathing costume. Make sure you have some different options.

Take necessary precautions for the sun.

Although there will be shady areas on deck, you will be spending hours under the sun each day. Make sure you bring the necessary protection, including sunglasses, a hat, and plenty of sunscreen. Apply sunscreen every morning and don’t forget to reapply throughout the day. It’s important to note that at times on deck it will be breezy and cool, but don’t be fooled, the sun will be glaring down! Make sure you have sunscreen on especially at these times.

Bring a camera!

On a sailing holiday, you will be witnessing stunning landscapes and natural scenery all day and every day. We highly recommend you bring along a camera to make sure you can immortalize these special moments and beautiful surroundings. Share plenty of snaps on social media to remember every moment! If you don’t have a camera, a high-end smartphone will do nicely.

Bring along books and a notebook.

On a yacht vacation, you will have plenty of time to spend with friends and family, but also lots of moments to yourself.  We recommend you bring along some reading material and also a journal. You can keep a diary while onboard your charter yacht noting down the places you visit and discover.

Pay attention to your choice of slippers and shoes.

On a yacht or any kind of boat, it is always important to pay attention to your choice of footwear. Sections of the deck can be wet or slippery and if you are not careful, this can cause you to trip and fall. For this reason, on a sailing holiday you should always opt for soft and grooved soles that will offer better traction on deck. You will also need shoes when you head to shore, so make sure to have choices of flip-flops, sandals and sports shoes with you for different activities. There will be plenty of opportunities for hiking and nature walks so a good comfortable walking shoe is essential.

Bring along a first-aid kit.

On a yacht vacation, you will be spending the majority of your time out at sea and won’t be able to head to shore immediately in case of emergencies. For this reason, always make sure you have some essential first-aid items with you to use in the meantime. We recommend the necessary items to treat sunburn, minor cuts and scrapes and nausea and headache medicine.

Be prepared for cooler temperatures.

Out at sea, it is common to experience sudden changes in temperature. Although you will most likely be planning your trip at the peak of summer, it is still possible to experience high winds or cooler nights in some areas. Every now and then a freak storm is even possible. So bring along some sweaters and a light jacket just to make sure you are prepared.
